30% of people approaching retirement will consider equity release

19-01-2010 16:49

A recent survey from insurer LV reveals that almost 30% of people aged 50 or over are considering using equity release schemes based on their property value to boost their retirement income.

The recent falls in house prices have also had little effect on the appetite for equity release with only 2% of respondents replying that falls had made them reconsider their position in relation to equity release.

The recent economic turbulence has not affected the optimism of respondents in the long term value of bricks and mortar who are happy to wait for property values to recover to allow them to take full advantage of equity release schemes.

Louise Tilston of Ashall Glover financial Services commented: “With the correct advice and attitude to risk, homeowners still have opportunities to take advantage of the benefits of equity release schemes.”
